The building official shall inspect or cause to be inspected any building, structure
or portion thereof which is or may be unsafe. After the building official has inspected
or caused to be inspected a building, structure or portion thereof and has determined
that such building, structure or portion thereof is unsafe, he/she shall initiate
proceedings to cause the abatement of the unsafe condition by repair, vacation or
demolition or combination thereof. For residential buildings, the building official
may, but is not required to, utilize the services of the fire marshal, county engineer,
or independent consultants in making such a determination. For all commercial buildings,
the building official shall utilize the services of the fire marshal, county engineer
and, if necessary, independent consultants in determining whether a structure is unsafe.
